Lianna Avetisyan, et al. vs. County of Los Angeles
Single vehicle traffic accident involving a taxicab.
On October 24,2007, at approximately 10:50 p.m. Migran Gevoglanyan, age 27, was driving a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria sedan, southbound on La Cienega Boulevard, approaching the Slauson Avenue exit. For unknown reasons, Mr. Gevoglanyan lost control of his vehicle, causing it to slide sideways onto the raised median of the exit ramp, and into the end of the guardrail on the raised curb. The impact caused the guardrail to impact the driver's door, which then caused fatal injuries to Mr. Gevoglanyan. Mr. Gevoglanyan's spouse and minor son allege a dangerous condition of public roadway. The County denies that there was a dangerous roadway condition and contends that none of the roadway features contributed to this accident.
Client: County of Los Angeles
Anthony vs. The State of California
Judge Overturns Conviction and Vacates Life Sentence.
LOS ANGELES and SANTA CLARA, CA – September 30, 2011 – A Los Angeles County superior court judge today threw out the 1995 murder and attempted robbery convictions of Northern California Innocence Project (NCIP) client Obie Anthony. Judge Kelvin Filer granted the habeas petition on the basis of the cumulative harm of prosecutorial misconduct, specifically the trial prosecutor's failure to correct the false testimony of its key witness, and the prosecution's failure to disclose exculpatory evidence to the defense, specifically the fact that the prosecution’s key witness received a “sweetheart deal” in exchange for his testimony against Mr. Anthony.
Client: Northern California Innocence Project representing Obie Anthony
